Understanding Timeliness Crucial When Purchasing Meat Direct From The Farm

Potential buyers of meat direct from producers should have an understanding of the time it takes to raise the livestock and process the cuts.  Amie Breshears, University of Missouri Extension community engagement specialist, recently co-wrote a guide listing five steps to making direct meat purchases.  She says one crucial step is lining up a meat processor.

Breshears says buyers need to ask their producer if they already have arrangements with a processor.  She adds that processing appointments should be booked well in advance.

The new guide helping consumers buy meat directly from the farm is available on the University of Missouri Extension website.
