TRUMAN TOPS MISSOURI S_T WITH GAME-WINNING FG IN FINAL SECONDS
Brad Boyer on the call of sophomore Josh Scheiderer’s game-winning 28-yard field goal with seven seconds left on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Bennett Swope then sacked Brennan Simms to seal a 41-39 victory. The Bulldogs led a turnover and penalty-filled game 38-25 with 12 minutes left, but the Miners capitalized on miscues and grabbed a 39-38 advantage on a 13-yard touchdown run with two and a half minutes left. Gregg Nesbitt’s 6-1 Bulldogs then drove 64 yards on 13 plays before Scheiderer’s kick.
Nesbitt’s quarterback Jaden Barr completed four passes on the game-winning drive, and the senior escaped several tackles on third and 10 for a remarkable first down run. The Bulldog head coach evaluated the late game execution.
The Miner defense assisted the drive with a second and 18 unsportsmanlike penalty. Barr finished with 272 passing yards and three touchdowns along with 107 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Spencer Newell caught eight of Barr’s passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Reeves recorded three and a half tackles for loss and two sacks, and Brookfield’s Reed McBroom paced the Bulldogs with 11 tackles. 6-1 Truman improves to 3-1 in the GLVC. Missouri S&T suffered its first conference loss and moves to 5-2 overall. The Bulldogs visit William Jewell next week with the Truman Tailgate at 2:10.
