A pair of 5-1 teams meet on homecoming Saturday at Truman when the Bulldogs host the Miners of Missouri S&T. The Bulldogs were knocked out of the national rankings when Lindenwood scored two touchdowns in the final 1:16 for a 28-24 win. The back-to-back scores came as a result of a successful onsides kick. ‘Dogs coach Gregg Nesbitt says they practice recovering an onsides kick each week but the intensity isn’t the same….

The Miners lost their season-opener at Eastern New Mexico by seven and have won five games in a row. One of their senior leaders is Logan Armontrout of Centralia, who is second on the team in receiving, with 25 catches for 396 yards and four touchdowns. First year S&T head coach Todd Drury says Armontrout is now a go-to guy….

At 2-0, the Miners are one of three teams without a loss in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (UIndy 4-0 and Lindenwood 3-0), while Truman is 2-1. Coach Nesbitt says the two teams are similar….

Truman has given up the fewest sacks in Division II football with two and ranks 2nd in kick return average (31.6). This game features two of the nation’s best pass rushers. Truman’s Sam Reeves is 2nd in active sacks with 33.5 and the Miners’ Tershawn Wharton is 4th with 30. Wharton is 2nd in total tackles for loss with 50.5 and Reeves is 3rd with 49.

Bulldog greats will be part of the Truman homecoming celebration. Hall of Fame coach Russ Sloan will be the Grand Marshall of the parade and career passing leader Eric Howe will be inducted in the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame.
