Swine Barn Marks Centennial Year

Since 1922, an open-air building on the west end of the Missouri State Fairgrounds has witnessed the progression of champion barrows and development of lasting friendships.  Exhibitors in the Swine Barn are marking the building’s 100th anniversary, with many of them reflecting on the role it’s played in their lives.  That includes building superintendent Jerry Reid, who first stepped foot in the building as an exhibitor six decades ago.

Reid reflects on some significant changes that have occurred during his 21 years directing the barn.

Swine exhibitors past and present, along with the Missouri State Fair Foundation, will commemorate the Swine Barn’s centennial this Saturday at 10 a.m.  The barn will also host the 4-H and FFA market barrow contest Friday morning starting at 8.
