South Shelby Girls Win Salisbury Tournament, Meadville Takes Third

The South Shelby Ladybirds won the Salisbury Tournament Championship with a 72-65 win over the Salisbury Lady Panthers. Salisbury led 35-33 at halftime before South Shelby outscored the Lady Panthers 15-9 in the third quarter. The Ladybirds used timely shots to force separation in the fourth quarter.

Austin Ward with the call on Superstation KRES. Salisbury trimmed a double digit deficit down to four late in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get any closer. South Shelby coach Luke O’Laughlin said he was happy with his team’s ability attacking the paint.

Hannah Wegman finished with 14 points. Miranda Patterson had a team-high 24. Emma Dovin ended with 14. Salisbury coach Wade Billington explained the differences he saw in his team from first to second half.

Salisbury’s Khloe Wyatt had a game-high 26 points. South Shelby moves to 7-4 and Salisbury falls to 5-2.

In the third place game, Meadville knocked off Norborne in a matchup of Class 1 state ranked teams. Meadville led by two at halftime, five after three quarters and hit free throws down the stretch to take the final edge. Coach Drew Nier said second chance points made the difference in the win.

Norborne coach Ken Brown explained why his team had unusual difficulties with rebounding against Meadville.

Meadville is now 9-2 and Norborne falls to 4-2.
