South Shelby Downs Elsberry in Class 3 Sectional

Once again the South Shelby Ladybirds used a dominant second half as they pulled away from the Elsberry Lady Indians 47-30 in a Class 3 Sectional Monday night. The Ladybirds never trailed in the game and steadily increased their lead throughout. Belle Roush set the tone in the first quarter.

Roush led the Ladybirds with 14 points despite picking up a leg injury late in the second quarter and being limited to a brief appearance in the third quarter. Callie McWilliams scored 12 points and Reese Maupin came off the bench to score 11. Coach Luke O’Laughlin said the team responded well to Roush’s injury.

South Shelby held the Lady Indians to just nine points in the second half. Grace White led the Lady Indians with 12 points, which all came in the first half. O’Laughlin said their defense was crucial in this game.

South Shelby improves to 23-6 and will face Centralia in a Class 3 Quarterfinal on Friday night. Elsberry finishes the season at 17-10.
