Salisbury’s Season Comes to an End with Loss to Top-Ranked Russellville

The Salisbury Panthers saw their season come to an end Monday night with a 6-2 loss to the top-ranked Russellville Indians in a Class 2 Sectional. The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Indians broke through. A single by Charlie Miller scored the first run of the game. Then with two runners on and one out Jesse Daniel broke the inning open for Russellville.

Russellville added to their lead in the fourth thanks to a solo home run by Jake Schulte and a throwing error to make it 6-0. The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the inning without the benefit of a hit. However, Salisbury was held to just two hits for the game by Miller, who threw a complete game with twelve strikeouts and three walks. Salisbury coach Nate King said this was a good experience for his young team.

Salisbury had no seniors on this year’s roster. Eli Wekenborg suffered the loss going four innings and allowing six runs on six hits. Ethan Hamilton came on in relief and pitched three shutout innings. King said Hamilton put everything together in his outing.

The Panthers concluded the season with a 16-5 record. Russellville improved to 26-4 and will face Putnam County in a Class 2 Quarterfinal on Wednesday. You can hear the full interview with coach King online at centralmoinfo.com.
