Salisbury Controls Lincoln to Advance to the Class 2 Quarterfinals

The Salisbury Panthers led for the vast majority of Monday’s Class 2 Sectional as they defeated previously unbeaten Lincoln 52-45. The Panthers’ offense came out firing in the first quarter thanks in part to Cooper Francis.

Colin Schowe with the call on KWIX and Francis scored eleven of his team-high 20 points in the first quarter to help the Panthers gradually build-up a lead. They pushed the lead to 16 in the fourth quarter before the Cardinals attempted a late rally courtesy of four three-pointers by Kyle Eckhoff. Mason Stapleton’s final points of the game put the game away for Salisbury.

Stapleton finished with 15 points while Hayden Wooldridge added twelve for the Panthers. Coach Kenny Wyatt said he was particularly pleased with the way his team started the game.

Eckhoff led the Cardinals with 23 points. He scored 19 of their 22 points in the second half as Lincoln finished the season at 28-1. Wyatt praised the defensive efforts of his players.

Salisbury improves to 26-3 on the season and will face Clopton Friday night at 6:15 at Moberly Area Community College.
