Rutledge Watched His Son’s MLB Dreams Come True

Moberly native John Rutledge watched the dreams of his son, Jackson, come true when he took the mound for the Washington Nationals at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, on September 13th, for his first Major League start…….

Then, in his third start, Jackson Rutledge earned his first victory beating the team with the best record in the majors, in the Atlanta Braves, on September 24th. With a one-run lead, John talked about the key moment in the fifth inning when his son faced MVP candidate Ronald Acuna, Jr….

Jackson was a first round draft pick of the Nationals in 2019, with the 17th overall selection. John said an unexpected factor made the climb to “the show” even tougher….

John said there’s a tough hurdle for starting pitchers to clear, in making a Major League roster…..

John Rutledge is a 1988 graduate of Moberly High School. He said one of his Spartan classmates happened to be in D.C. and came to Nationals Park to watch Jackson’s first win. Rutledge also appreciates all the support with posts on Facebook.

Jackson graduated from Rockwood Summit High School in St. Louis, then went to San Jacinto College, before getting drafted.
