The emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has led to an increase in cases of the virus in recent weeks. While cases have remained fairly stable in Randolph County, Health Department Administrator Sharon Whisenand says the new variant creates concern.

There have been no confirmed cases of Omicron in Randolph County. However, Whisenand says the new variant is likely present in the county.

Randolph County Health Department officials are hopeful to see a decline in COVID-19 cases in the weeks following the holiday season.
