Monroe City Snaps Losing Streaks With Sweep Of Brookfield 

The Monroe City Lady Panthers snapped a six game losing streak in front of their home crowd with a 49-35 victory over the Brookfield Lady Dogs. Brookfield held a 22-19 lead heading into the break but a 15-2 run in the third quarter turned the tide for the Lady Panthers.

Monroe City outscored Brookfield 30-13 in the second half to pull away. Naaron Hays led the Lady Panthers with 14 points, 12 of which came in the second half Coach Adam Rung talked about how Hays got going after a slow start.

Lucy Pratt carried the bulk of the scoring in the first half scoring eight of her 13 points before the break. Meanwhile Ella Daugherity led the Lady Dogs with 14 points but it wasn’t enough to stop Brookfield from falling to 16-7 on the season. The Lady Panther improved to 9-16. They will take on Macon in the final game of the regular season on Friday.

The Monroe City Panthers used a balanced attack and a three point barrage to dispatch of the Brookfield Bulldogs 61-43 in the men’s contest. The Panthers knocked down nine three pointers and had three players reach double figures.

Quincy Mayfield scored a team high 19 points. Senior Reese Buhlig chipped in 15, while Ryan Moss scored 12 all via the three ball. Panthers head coach Brock Edris was pleased with the well rounded attack.

Owen Boley scored a game high 22 points for Brookfield, who trailed by just 13 entering halftime. However the Bulldogs got outscored 16-5 in the third quarter. Head coach Dray Starzl credited Monroe city with making a key adjustment at halftime.

Turnovers issues also plagued the Bulldogs.

Monroe City ended a seven game skid with the victory to improve to 7-18. They will take on Macon on Friday. Brookfield finishes the regular season with a 4-22 record.
