A pair of Monroe City teams were named Big-K All-Decade a few weeks ago. David Kirby guided the 2017 Class 1 state champion football team, and the 2019 Class 2 boys track and field championship squad. The Panthers had a lot of athletes who were part of both All-Decade teams. Kirby reflects on the Class of 2019’s impact on Monroe City’s athletics.

As Kirby enters his tenth year in the district and eighth as a head coach, he’s learned to enjoy the relationship football and track and field have.

Kirby believes competing in both those sports gives athletes different types of goals and success.

Athletes who were part of both All-Decade teams include Keenan Batsell, Blake Hays, Kaelin Kendrick-O’Bryan, and Zach Osborn.
