Moberly Seeks Season Sweep of Mexico

The Moberly girls’ soccer team will seek a season sweep of NCMC rival Mexico Monday night. The Lady Spartans defeated Mexico 5-0 earlier in the season. Moberly coach Chris Buckman says his team will need the same confident approach they had the first time against Mexico.

Kennedy Messer netted a hat-trick the first time the two teams met. However, goals have been in short supply for the 3-12 Lady Spartans. They have scored just eleven goals in regulation play this season. As a result, Buckman says his team can take nothing for granted.

Mexico graduated 17 seniors in 2020. As a result, the Lady Bulldogs are re-building with a roster that features just one senior and only one player with previous varsity experience. Mexico comes into the contest with an 0-15 record. Despite the defeats, Mexico coach Haley Schafer says her young team has shown plenty of growth this season.

Like Moberly, goal-scoring has been a struggle for Mexico. The Lady Bulldogs have scored just three goals this season. Their last goal was scored back on March 29th in a 4-1 loss to Wright City. Schafer says her team will need to attack from the outside in order to be successful against Moberly.

Monday night’s game will serve as Senior Night for Moberly. Pregame coverage will begin at 4:50 on KTCM 97.3. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
