Moberly looks to claim an outright North Central Missouri Conference championship when Mexico visits Dr. Larry K. Noel-Spartan Stadium Friday. The 4th-ranked Spartans moved to 6-1 (3-0 NCMC) last week with a 14-13 last-minute victory at Hannibal. The thrilling win was followed by news this week that the Spartans may be without a couple key players due to contact tracing for this game. While Moberly coach Cody McDowell says it’s next man up, he is concerned about his team’s depth.

Coach McDowell knows the challenge is to stop Mexico’s ground game.

Mexico returned its top three backs and third-year starting quarterback Ty Prince. The Bulldogs average 6.2 yards per carry and 330 rushing yards per game. While contact tracing remains a story in Moberly, Mexico canceled its season opener a few hours before kickoff due to a positive test. Mexico head coach Steve Haag says the 4-2 Bulldogs have responded well in recent weeks.

Centralmoinfo.com asked Haag if the opportunity to spoil Moberly’s outright NCMC title adds extra motivation in the rivalry game.

A Mexico win and a Hannibal win at Marshall would result in a three-way tie atop the NCMC, each with one loss. You can hear the Mexico at Moberly game on KWIX-AM and FM and centralmoinfo.com starting at 6:35pm. Brad and Eric will have the call. Our football Friday begins with the Lindy’s College Football Report at 6:06pm on KWIX.
