Moberly Hosts Hannibal in NCMC Rematch

Moberly will host Hannibal in an NCMC doubleheader Tuesday night at Moberly High School. On the girls’ side, Moberly will look to remain unbeaten in the conference as they come in with a 3-0 mark in the NCMC. Seven of Moberly’s final nine games are in conference play. Coach Tony Vestal says those conference games will be their main focus down the stretch.

The Lady Spartans rolled to a 57-35 win in their first meeting with Hannibal back in December. However, the Lady Pirates have gotten on track and are now 12-5 under first-year head coach Shawn Gaines. Vestal says the Lady Spartans can’t afford to take anything for granted.

The Moberly boys are coming off a pair of single-digit losses at the Eldon Tournament last week. Moberly coach Brett Boyer said those games were two totally different efforts from his squad.

Senior Derieus Wallace leads the Spartans with 15.4 points per game. Moberly dropped their first meeting with Hannibal 52-41. Boyer says they have to be aggressive against the Pirates’ defense this time around.

Hannibal enters the game with a 7-11 record. Doubleheader coverage will begin at 6:15 on KWIX-AM and FM and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
