Moberly Girls and Marshall Boys Grind Out Wins

Marshall and Moberly met for the second time in two weeks, this time with a split result for the doubleheader.

The Lady Spartans trailed 10-2 after the opening quarter but rallied in the second half to win 56-38. Junior Grace Billington poured on 15 points in the final half including two big-time baskets in the fourth.

Vestal gave praises to junior Haley Baker and senior Anyja Hayes for their efforts.

The Lady Owls were led by Alexis Neff who finished with 10 points. Moberly improves to 15-7 and are winners of seven straight while Marshall falls to 4-20.

Game two of the night went into overtime as Marshall squeezed out the 63-54 victory. Moberly made big plays down the stretch in regulation to tie things back up.

The Spartans had one more chance in the fourth with 5.5 seconds remaining but could not get a shot off. Free throw shooting and stout defense by Marshall made the difference in the final extra period. Coach Brett Boyer.

Stephen Caviness finished with a game-high 24 points. Boyer said Marshall made adjustments that limited the Spartans this time around.

Moberly was led by Cameron Doubrava with 14 points. The Spartans fall to 3-18 while Marshall picks up their second straight win to improve to 5-19.
