Missouri has one of the largest percentage increases of winter wheat acres planted this season. USDA’s Winter Wheat Seedings report Tuesday indicates that 660,000 acres in the state will grow wheat this spring, up 38 percent from a year ago and 20 percent from two years ago. By comparison, acres planted nationwide increased by five percent at close to 32 million. That figure was fueled by a 12-percent jump in soft red winter wheat acres, along with a four-percent increase in hard red winter. Nearly all Missouri wheat acres are of the soft red winter variety.
