Mexico Girls Wrestling Growing in Program’s Second Year

In its second year, the Mexico girls wrestling program has seen significant growth in participation. The total number of girls out for wrestling this year has jumped from five to 14. Mexico girls wrestling coach Tony Senor says this includes all five girls that participated last year.

While girls like Bowen have been wrestling since they were five years old, others are less experienced. Senor discusses how they deal with the different experience levels.

The Lady Bulldogs have compiled a 5-2 record in dual matches so far this season. They will also be participating in the third annual Wonder Woman Tournament this Wednesday and Thursday at Battle High School in Columbia. Senor says this tournament will be a great challenge for the girls.

Goals for the Mexico girls wrestling program in their second year include getting up to four state qualifiers, multiple state medalists, and to win an NCMC title.
