During an executive session at last week’s Mexico School Board meeting, Melissa Chastain was announced as the new Superintendent of Mexico Public Schools. Chastain has served the Mexico School District for the past 17 years. Her roles have included being a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. Chastain says Mexico is a special place for her.

Prior to her arrival in Mexico, Chastain spent a combined four years as a teacher in the Wellsville-Middletown and North Callaway school districts. As Superintendent in Mexico, Chastain says she’s looking to bring the district together as a team.

Chastain also has one specific focus early in her time as superintendent.

Chastain had been serving as the interim superintendent in Mexico since May 19th following the departure of Dr. Tammy Lupardus.
