Meadville Tops North Shelby In Heavy Weight Sectionals Bout

Two of the top three teams in the state faced off on Tuesday night in Salisbury in a heavyweight matchup featuring the North Shelby Lady Raiders and the undefeated Meadville Lady Eagles. Meadville was able to outlast North Shelby 58-46. The lady Eagles jumped on North Shelby early racing ahead to a 21-12 lead

Mitchell Kaminski with the call on KTCM . The Lady Raiders counter punched in the second quarter taking a brief 27-25 lead. 

 

The teams entered the final frame separated by just one possession with Meadville clinging to a 45-43 lead. The game got physical with scraps for loose balls resulting in injuries to Ceairra Kirby and Hadlee Parsons. Both were forced to leave the game and would not return. Coach Chris Parsons provided an injury update after the game.

Meadville head coach Steve Carvajal shared his thoughts on the physical nature of the game.

Coach Parsons had a slightly different view. 

The Lady Eagles used a 13-3 run in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Madison Carvajal led the Lady Eagles with a game high 24 points while Korrie Holcer and Mallory Dennis chipped in 16 and 10. Steve Carvajal talked about Madison’s performance.

The Lady Raiders finished the season 25-4 while the Lady Eagles improved to 28-0.

St. Elizabeth vs. Community

The St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets cruised to a 61-41 victory over the Community Lady Trojans. Tori Kemna led the Lady Hornets attack with 20 points while Reagan Wobbe and Ella Lucas also reached double figures. Community was within single digits at halftime but had issues scoring in the second half. Head coach Bob Curtis talked about his team’s struggles.

 

The Lady Trojans finish the season 22-6. St. Elizabeth will take on Meadville on Saturday.
