Marceline and Milan Set for District Semifinal Battle

The top-seeded Milan Wildcats welcome future Grand River Conference rival Marceline to Cal Hubbard Field Friday night for a district semifinal football contest. The four-seed Tigers enter play riding a seven-game winning streak. Coach Joey Peterson says he’s looking forward to the challenge of facing the Wildcats.

The Marceline defense will be challenged by a pair of 1,000 yard rushers in Carlos Cotto and Ahmet Niasse. Peterson discusses the keys to slowing the Wildcats down.

Milan entered district play ranked fourth in Class 1. The Wildcats’ lone loss came in week one to South Shelby. Milan coach Mark Cole says Marceline Quarterback Dax Thomas presents some challenges for his defense.

Thomas has tallied 879 rushing yards and twelve touchdowns this season for the Tigers. Meanwhile, the Wildcat defense is allowing just 14.7 points per game this season. Cole says line play will be crucial in this game.

This marks the first football game between Milan and Marceline since a 2013 district championship game where the Tigers were victorious 26-0. Pregame coverage of this year’s meeting begins at 6:35 on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
