This past weekend marked the youth portion of the firearms deer season, with many hunters now circling November 14th and 15th on their calendars. That marks the official opening of the firearms deer season. Shelby County Conservation Agent Kevin Lockard says whether you will be hunting during the archery season, which is underway now, or the firearms season, it’s important to notch your permit right after harvesting the deer. That can be done on your paper permit, or through the Department of Conservation’s app.

Lockard says safety needs to be the priority when you are hunting.

If you have questions about the regulations for the deer seasons, you can contact your local agent, or go to the department’s website.
