La Plata Softball Season Comes to an End with Run Rule Loss

The La Plata Lady Bulldogs saw their season come to an with an 18-0 loss in three innings to Platte Valley in a Class 1 semifinal. The visitors from Nodaway County pounced four runs in the first inning against Olivia Coy. The second inning saw an even bigger offensive explosion with Paige West providing the exclamation point.

Colin Schowe with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com of Paige West’s inside-the-park grand slam to cap a ten-run second inning for Platte Valley. Kierstin Wood took over for Coy in the circle after the first inning as Coy was moved to first base due to a shoulder injury. After the game, La Plata coach Greg Buescher discussed Coy’s injury situation.

Platte Valley outhit La Plata 17-3 and La Plata committed three errors in the defeat. The Lady Bulldogs graduate six seniors from this year’s team. However, La Plata will have plenty of building blocks to work with for next season.

La Plata finishes the season with a record of 23-6 and their first semifinal birth since 2001. Platte Valley improves to 22-3 and advances to the Class 1 State Championship game against Vienna, this Saturday in Springfield.
