Koeneke Explains His Decision to Retire as Hallsville Baseball Coach

46 years as head coach is an amazing number, but it’s not one of those round numbers. Hallsville baseball coach Barry Koeneke explains why now is the time to retire.

At the time of his retirement announcement, Koeneke’s career record was 687-474, including three state championships, eight trips to the state semifinals and 16 district championships. The Hall of Fame coach says there have been some difficult losses to get over, but nothing compared to the loss of last season due to the pandemic.

Before the pandemic, Koeneke had another big setback.

Koeneke is going to enjoy the rest of this season.

In 1993, Koeneke was inducted into the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Koeneke and the Hallsville Indians Baseball program were inducted in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2019. You can hear the full interview with coach Barry Koeneke on Magic City Sports Talk this Friday at 9:32am on KWIX or on the show page under the sports tab.
