For the second straight year and fourth time in five years, the Moberly Greyhounds are Region 16 Champions. The Hounds defeated Mineral Area 66-62. It was deadlocked at 60 with under a minute to go.

Austin Ward with the call on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com. A few minutes prior, Tanksley gave the Hounds their first lead of the second half.

Tanksley finished with a game-high 25 points. The Hounds had not led since the eight-minute mark of the first half prior to that bucket. Tedrick Washington finished with 13 points, Brandon Hall scored 11 and Tre’Von Spillers put in 10. Coach Pat Smith thought his team responded well after sixth man RaeShaun Ambris suffered a likely season ending injury in the semifinal game Friday.

Smith said other players stepped up.

Spillers was named the Region 16 Player of the Year while Tanksley and Washington each garnered First Team All-Region honors. The 29-3 Greyhounds next play Saturday in the district championship against the winner of Monday’s Region 4 title game between Triton and Highland.
