Green City to Host Pattonsburg in Class 1 Quarterfinal

After a postseason filled with traveling, Green City will stay at home for their Class 1 Quarterfinal as they host the Pattonsburg Panthers tonight. The Gophers are coming off an 11-9 win in the Sectional round at Canton Monday night. Green City coach Dale Whitacre says his team comes into the Quarterfinals battle-tested.

Green City’s offense comes in averaging 10.6 runs per game. However, they will be facing a Pattonsburg squad averaging 11.2 a game and are coming off a game where they scored seven runs over the first two innings. Whitacre says that means they will need to be focused for all seven innings against Pattonsburg.

Pattonsburg is playing just their fourth full season of baseball. The Panthers come into the Quarterfinals with a record of 13-2 and their first district title in program history. In the sectional round, Pattonsburg avenged one of their earlier losses by defeating Platte Valley 11-2. Pattonsburg coach Jeffrey Epperly says the team is focused in playing as one during the postseason.

The Panthers roster features just ten players, including four seniors. Epperly says that senior class has been pivotal in their success this season.
