Green City Defense Stifles Brunswick in Class 1 Sectional

Green City secured its fourth consecutive appearance in the state quarterfinals with a 54-38 win over Brunswick. The Gophers expanded an eight point lead at the half 13 points as the third quarter concluded. Senior Asher Buggs-Tipton scored all eight points for Green City in the final frame.

Steven Findley Jr with the call on 104.7 KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Buggs-Tipton finished with a team-high 31 points. Green City held Brunswick to just five points in the fourth. Coach Matt Ayers said the defense was stout.

It was the tenth time this season that Green City has held an opponent to 38 or fewer points. Brunswick junior Colby Jenkins led his team with 14. Coach Colton Byrd.

Brunswick graduates one senior and finishes the season 21-8. The now 26-2 Gophers face Prairie Home in the state quarters. Ayers said reaching the quarterfinals isn’t the end goal for his team.

Prairie Home defeated Sacred Heart 64-59 to clinch the quarterfinal spot.
