Fayette Meets Marceline in State Quarterfinal Rematch
The Fayette Falcons and Marceline Tigers are set to meet in a Lewis & Clark Conference matchup. Marceline won both contests against the Falcons last season, including a 21-20 win in the state quarterfinals.
Fayette is 3-1 to start the season after beating Westran 21-18 on a goal line stand in the final seconds. The Falcons have wins over Scotland County, Westran and Carrollton. Fayette coach Mike Thompson says his team did a good job defensively down the stretch against the Hornets.
Chase Allen-Jackman recorded eight catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way offensively for the Falcons against Westran. The Falcons come in averaging just over 17 points a game offensively. Thompson says the offense must improve its consistency.
Coming into this contest 0-4, the Marceline Tigers are looking to continue their recent success against the Falcons in this L&C series. Tiger coach Joey Peterson says his team’s effort and focus aren’t wavering despite the 26-0 loss to Hogan Prep last week.
Peterson says this Falcon team loaded with talent will present a tough test for his squad this week.
