D2 Athletes Could Retain Year of Eligibility

Some NCAA Division II student-athletes could have a year of eligibility saved this season. The NCAA announced Wednesday that student-athletes who are on teams that either don’t compete or complete less than 50% of the sport’s maximum contests will not be charged with the use of season for the 2020-21 academic year. Schools will be able to self-apply a season-of-competition waiver if the criteria is met for a student-athlete that is both eligible for and uses a year of competition during the academic year. Schools will also be able to self-apply an extension of eligibility waiver if the student-athlete qualifies for the season-of-competition waiver or if they are unable to participate due to the cancellation of the sport season.
