Cullen Bennett Bucket Caps 21-point Comeback For Centralia Over Moberly

The Centralia Panthers notched a big comeback victory over the Moberly Spartans Tuesday night…

Austin Ward with the call on KRES and Moberly’s half court heave at the buzzer fell short to secure a 42-41 victory for the Panthers. Cullen Bennett finished with 14 points and coach Scott Humphrey said he was big.

Centralia grabbed an early 7-3 lead before the Spartans rebounded to take a 12-9 lead after one quarter. Moberly outscored the Panthers 20-4 in the second frame.

Centralia then outscored the Spartans 17-4 in the third quarter to cut its deficit to six. Moberly’s Cameron Doubrava hit a three early in the fourth as part of his game-high 15 points to push the lead to nine, but coach Brett Boyer’s squad scored just two points the rest of the way and missed six straight free throws in the final 42 seconds.

The win snaps a four-game losing streak for Humphrey’s 5-5 Panthers.

The Spartans end their pre-Christmas slate at 5-4.

Moberly next plays Osage in the MACC Peak Sport and Spine Shootout December 30th. The Panthers are off until January 2nd when they host Bowling Green.
