A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place today in Columbia for the M-E-R-S Goodwill adult high school, one of four adult high schools being built in the state. The tuition-free high schools are being established to help adults earn their high school diplomas. Missouri lawmakers approved legislation creating the adult high schools in 2017. Proponents of the bill note there are 500-thousand Missouri adults without a high school diploma and an estimated 375-thousand of them are on food stamps and have children.
