Cairo, South Shelby Girls Advance to Quarterfinals

The Cairo and South Shelby girls led the entire way in winning their respective sectional games Tuesday night.

Cairo topped Schuyler County 55-37. Cairo led 31-18 early in the third quarter before Schuyler scored seven straight points to force a timeout from Ladycat coach Brian Winkler. Cairo proceeded to score 11 straight to pull away. Winkler says the experience of losing in sectionals last year helped in the response.

Macie Harman scored a game-high 16 points, Avery Martin contributed 14 and Gracie Brumley had 10.

26-3 Cairo will get Tipton in the quarterfinals. Schuyler was led by Kait Hatfield’s 12 points and Jacie Morris chipped in 10. The Lady Rams close the season 23-6.

South Shelby defeated Duchesne 56-36. Coach Luke O’Laughlin praised his team’s aggressive start.

Duchesne cut a 25-point deficit to 13 in the third quarter before a three by Callie McWilliams stunted the rally attempt. She finished the game with 12 points.

Miranda Patterson closed with a game-high 15. The 25-4 number one state-ranked Ladybirds oppose second-ranked Skyline in the quarters.
