The 2020 Missouri Legislative Session is just over two weeks old and many legislators are beginning to focus on their various tasks at hand. As Ranking Minority Member of the House Budget Committee, Representative Kip Kendrick is focused on the state budget. Kendrick says the first task has been looking at Governor Mike Parson’s proposed budget.

Higher education funding is one of Kendrick’s biggest areas of focus from the governor’s proposed budget.

A state budget is typically adopted in April or May. As a result, legislators have a short window of time to organize and pass a balanced budget. Kendrick says balancing the budget can be a challenge.

Both the House and Senate have begun working in earnest on crafting their versions of the state budget. The 2020 Missouri Legislative Session runs through May 15th.
