Boone County Commission Calls for Senate Bill 190 Election

Boone County voters will decide in April if the County Commission should implement a property tax exemption for senior citizens. The commission voted to put Proposition 1 on the ballot, which reads “Shall the County of Boone exempt senior citizens from certain increases in the property tax liability due on such senior citizens’ primary residences?” Governor Mike Parson signed Senate Bill 190 into law last July, which allows counties to opt in to providing property tax relief for residents eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. Senate Bill 576, moving through the legislature this year, is supposed to clean up some of the unclear language in SB 190.
