Optimizing Land Use A Key Component Of Conservation

With land values increasing, it’s become important for farmers to maximize the use of their land while ensuring its sustainability for future generations.  For Sharon Oetting, that meant embracing conservation practices on her family’s 182-year-old operation outside Concordia.

Oetting says a variety of practices have been put to use on their row crop acres.

Sharon Oetting says they’re continuing to experiment with the use of cover crops to increase soil health and decrease erosion.  Oetting Homestead Farms of Concordia was the recipient of this year’s Missouri Leopold Conservation Award.
