Clarence Cannon rivals Monroe City and Palmyra meet for the first of two times this week. Ahead of Friday’s Mayor’s Cup between the two schools, the two softball teams meet Wednesday in Class 2 sectionals. Monroe City defeated Bowling Green 8-5 to clinch their first district title since 2016. Head coach Melissa Chinn says in addition to a balanced offensive attack, junior Riley Quinn has been a difference maker on the mound.

The Palmyra Panthers defeated Monroe City 4-3 in the conference matchup earlier this year in the flower city. Seniors Bailey Lovelace and Megan Stone lead a Panther offense averaging a little over seven runs a game. Coach Jill Arch says those two are imperative for Palmyra…

In the conference matchup, Palmyra had a three-run rally in the seventh inning which proved to be critical in the Panthers winning their first conference title in quite sometime. Arch knows Monroe City is very fast on the base paths.

For Monroe City, Chinn sees a lot of similarities between the two schools.
