Bipartisan Proposal Would Open Carbon Credit Market To Farmers
Four senators have met at the aisle to propose legislation that would allow farmers to contribute to carbon mitigation efforts. The Growing Climate Solutions Act, introduced by Republicans Mike Braun and Lindsey Graham along with Democrats Debbie Stabenow and Sheldon Whitehouse, would direct USDA to create a certification program that would make it easier for farmers to sell environmental credits. Brent Bible, a no-till farmer outside Lafayette, Indiana, says the proposal would reward farmers for sustainable practices on their farm.
Bible adds that the bill champions conservation efforts and provides value back to the farmer…
Several farm groups including the National Corn Growers Association and National Milk Producers Federation have expressed support for the legislation, as well as the Environmental Defense Fund.
