Big First Quarter Propels Truman To A Homecoming Win Over Jewell

20th ranked Truman State used two turnovers to score 21 first quarter points and beat William Jewell 31-10 on homecoming Saturday at Stokes Stadium. Ben Thomas picked off a pass on the first play of the game at the 21 yard line and the Bulldogs were in the endzone three plays later….

That is coach Gregg Nesbitt. On their second possession, the Bulldogs used 13 plays to cover 62 yards capped by a six-yard touchdown pass from Nolan Hair to Tate Crane. After a Jewell fumble, it took two plays for Truman to extend the lead on Thomas Spaulding’s first career touchdown….

The Bulldogs led 24-10 at intermission. Mason Huskey provided the only scoring of the second half on a 45-yard catch and run early in the fourth quarter. The Hallsville native had 116 all-purpose yards and has scored a touchdown in seven of eight games. Coach Nesbitt watched his Bulldog defense yield only three first downs in the second half in shutting out the Cardinals….

Hair threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns. He now has 55 career TD passes to move into third place on the Truman career list. He also moved into fifth place on the total offense list. A.J. Austene of Hallsville caught a 33-yard pass for William Jewell. The Cardinals drop to 2-5 and 1-3 in the GLVC. Truman improves to 7-1 and 3-1 in the conference.
