USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced that the department will establish new programs and efforts to bring financial assistance to farmers, ranchers and producers who felt the impact of COVID-19 market disruptions. Speaking with farm broadcasters yesterday (Wednesday), Vilsack said the goal is to try to provide as much help as equitably as possible, to as many producers as possible who have been hurt by the pandemic.

The assistance is broken out into four different parts. One part is to carry out formula payments under CFAP 1, CFAP 2 and CFAP AA.

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack noted that given the diversity of agriculture, size of operations and methods of production, it wasn’t an easy task as officials had to get their arms around what the need was, how much resource was available both in COVID packages and normal USDA packages to try and put together a comprehensive plan.
