Two Monroe City residents were seriously injured when a pickup pulled into the path of their car Wednesday afternoon. The State Highway Patrol says 49-year-old Steven Kempker of Stoutsville was trying to make a left turn on Highway 24, three miles west of Monroe City, when he pulled into the path of the car driven by 30-year-old Ethan Messer of Monroe City around 4:20. Messer and a seven-year-old boy in his car were seriously injured. Both were flown to Columbia. Kempker was not hurt, but was booked for felony driving while intoxicated and failure to yield.
