Truman Sweeps SBU-Weltha Scores Her 1000th Point

The Truman men knocked off Southwest Baptist again, while Ellie Weltha reached a career milestone in leading the Bulldog women to victory at Pershing Arena tonight (Mon.).

Elijah Hazekamp scored 25 points to lead the Bulldogs to an 81-71 win. The ‘Dogs trailed by seven points with just over six minutes remaining….

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. The Bulldogs outscored the Bearcats 24-7 down the stretch for coach Jeff Horner….

Trey Shearer scored 13 points, and Hunter Strait and Nduka Ogwu both added 12. The Bulldogs are now 2-7 in the GLVC, with both wins over SBU. The ‘Dogs stop their three-game losing streak to improve to 7-10. The Bearcats drop to 12-5 and 4-5 in the conference.

In the women’s game, Weltha scored her 1,000th point in a 70-64 victory over SBU. She finished with 20 points and ten rebounds, including back-to-back hoops to give Truman the lead for good with under five minutes left….

Weltha became just the sixth player in Truman history to record a thousand points and 700 rebounds. Alex Fanning scored 18 and Hannah Belanger chipped in 15. Coach Theo Dean said a defensive switch was key….

The Bulldog women avenge their only conference loss to improve to 8-1 and 12-5 overall. SBU drops to 8-9 and 2-7 in the league. Paris native Tori Hamilton scored seven.

Both Truman teams will play Missouri S&T in Rolla on Thursday night. You can hear the doubleheader on KRES starting at 5:15.
