Truman Men Post-Quarantine Win-Women Upset in OT by UIndy

The 7th ranked Truman men picked up where they left off, while the 24th ranked Bulldog women were upset in overtime, in a doubleheader split with Indianapolis at Pershing Arena Thursday night.

19 days removed from their last game due to quarantine and with only one practice before the game, the Bulldog men came out ready to play in a 79-67 win over UIndy….

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Truman led by as many as 19 early in the second half. The Greyhounds knocked the margin down to 57-51 when Sam Nissen came off the bench to hit a big three and the Bulldogs were not threatened the rest of the way. Coach Jeff Horner admired the guts his guys showed in coming off quarantine and jumping right into action….

Elijah Hazekamp had his first double-double in a Bulldog uniform with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Cade McKnight scored 15, Dylan Peeters added 14, and Turner Scott had a career-high 12 assists. It was the sixth straight win taking the Bulldogs record to 11-1. UIndy’s winning streak was stopped at four and the Greyhounds drop to 5-9.

In the women’s game, Indianapolis erased a nine-point deficit entering the 4th quarter and upset Truman 78-74 in overtime. Mickey Sasson (SASS-sahn) keyed the win with 20 points and 18 rebounds for the 7-8 Greyhounds. UIndy used a 10 point run in the 4th to go on top. Late in regulation, the Bulldogs’ GLVC Player of the Week was able to get the game to overtime…

Belanger missed the free throw, and UIndy missed a last second shot in regulation sending the game into overtime tied at 66. The Bulldogs scored the first two buckets of the extra session, but the Greyhounds scored the last six points of the game. Coach Theo Dean broke down the loss…

Katie Jaseckas led Truman with 21 points, Ellie Weltha had 16 points and 13 rebounds and Belanger had 16. The win snapped the Bulldogs 7-game winning streak; one shy of the program record. Truman drops to 11-3. All three ranked women’s teams in the GLVC lost this week.

Both Bulldog teams will host Lewis on Saturday afternoon. We will have the doubleheader on KRES starting at 12:45
