Trio of Milan KRES All-Stars Reflect on Semifinal Run

Class 1 semifinalist Milan is well-represented on the 2023 KRES All-Star Team. Seniors Ahmet Niasse, Jared Gonzalez and Jose Garcia were all named to the team for the first times in their high school careers. They were a part of an 11-2 season that resulted in Milan’s deepest playoff run since the 1993 state championship team. Garcia says the team had a tight bond throughout the year.

The Wildcats dropped their season opener to South Shelby before rattling off eleven-straight victories. Niasse says that South Shelby loss was beneficial to the team.

Niasse was named to the KRES All-Star team as a linebacker. He served as a three-year defensive captain for the Wildcats. Niasse says that’s a role he grew into through the years.

Milan earned their first district title since 2011 when they defeated Penney 13-12 two weeks ago at Cal Hubbard Field. Gonzalez says the run through the playoffs was memorable.

The season came to an end for the Wildcats with a 54-34 semifinal loss to North Platte this past Saturday. Our series of KRES All-Star interviews runs through Monday on 104.7 and centralmoinfo.com.
