Fatalities Confirmed in Mendon Train Derailment

Fatalities have been confirmed in Monday’s train derailment in Mendon. Public Information Officer Justin Dunn of the Highway Patrol reports on the accident.

Amtrak says the train traveled from Los Angeles to Chicago and struck a dump truck at a public crossing in Mendon at 12:42pm Monday. About 275 passengers were on board, plus crew members. Local authorities are currently assisting passengers, and the company has deployed additional resources to assist. Amtrak canceled the westbound train leaving Chicago Monday.
