During its September meeting, the Slater School Board approved providing COVID leave for district staff. Slater Superintendent Debbie Gonzalez says the move was necessitated by an increase in COVID-19 quarantines.

The federal government had previously allowed for COVID-19 leave for teachers and staff at the start of the 2020-21 school year. Gonzalez says since this past spring semester it has been up to the discretion of each school district.

The Slater School Board gave unanimous approval to the COVID leave. During its next meeting, the board will consider whether to extend a mask order that went into effect in the school district this month.
