A Shelbyville man died and two others were injured in an Andrew County accident just before 1 Thursday afternoon. The State Highway Patrol reports 57-year-old Michael Peterson of Shelbyville was driving a truck northbound on US 169, two miles south of Rochester, while another truck driven by 63-year-old Jean Smith of St Joseph was entering from a private driveway. Peterson tried to avoid Smith and was struck on the passenger side. Peterson’s vehicle crossed the center line, started to skid and overturned. Peterson was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead on the scene. Peterson’s two passengers were injured. 56-year-old Gary Mayhall of Shelby, Nebraska suffered serious injuries and 37-year-old Montgomery Hightshoe of Paris had moderate injuries. Both were taken to St Joseph. Smith was uninjured.
