Salisbury Overpowers Harrisburg to Win First District Title Since 2009

The Salisbury Panthers pounded out ten runs on eleven hits to claim a 10-3 victory over Harrisburg in the Class 2 District 7 Championship game Wednesday night. Salisbury scored a run in the second inning after Braden Sloan drew a bases loaded walk. Salisbury added a run on a fielding error in the third to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Daniel White doubled the Panther lead.

A wild pitch provided the final run of Salisbury’s four-run third inning. The Panthers added two runs in the fourth and sixth innings and a single tally in the fifth. Salisbury coach Nate King said his team showed its offensive depth.

The leadoff batter for the Panthers reached base in four of the six innings that they batted in. King said this was one of their best games offensively.

The district title is Salisbury’s first since 2009. Harrisburg scattered seven hits against Salisbury starter Eli Wekenborg. Only one of the Bulldog hits came with less than two outs. Harrisburg coach Chris Ackman said they never could get into a rhythm.

Logan Fritts led Harrisburg’s offensive effort by going 2-2 with a single, a triple, and a walk.  Tanner Lanes, Gavin Curtis, and Trevor Smoot are the three seniors graduating from this year’s Bulldog squad. Ackman described the importance of this senior class.

Harrisburg concludes the season with a record of 15-15. Salisbury improves to 16-4 and will face top-ranked Russellville in a Class 2 Sectional Monday. You can hear full postgame interviews with both coaches online at centralmoinfo.com
