O’Laughlin Discusses MSHSAA Football Reclassification

Class changes are coming to high school football next season. Westran Athletic Director Aaron O’Laughlin says it will help small schools.

O’Laughlin says fluctuating enrollment numbers progressively made a change like this more important.

The hope is more districts will be able to stick with 11-man football.

O’Laughlin says some sort of a change to the postseason format is likely.

O’Laughlin doesn’t think the same-weekend scenario for all classes plus 8-man would be widely accepted.

Another scenario would have the Class 1 state championship played the week before all other classes.
