Two big K area school districts are delaying the start of their school years which has forced the cancellation of multiple football games.

The Slater school district is postponing the start of their classes to September 1st, and as a result, their Week 1 game against Wellington-Napoleon has been canceled.

The Hannibal school district is suspending all district activities and will not begin class until September 8th. Hannibal’s first two football games against Helias Catholic and Jefferson City as a result have been canceled.

So far, four Week 1 football games in the listening area have either been rescheduled or canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two weeks ago, a positive case on the Mark Twain football team led to the cancellation of their first game of the year against South Callaway. South Callaway is now planning to host Monroe City Week 1 after Monroe City was advised not to travel to Festus to take on their scheduled Week 1 opponent, St. Pius X.
