Monroe City KRES All-Stars Reflect on State Run

Monroe City boys basketball appeared in consecutive Show-Me Showdowns for the first time in program history. Senior KRES All-Star Logan Buhlig reflects on the Panthers’ runner-up finish.

Buhlig delivered a team-high nine points in a 43-35 state championship loss to Hartville. The two-time All-Clarence Cannon guard was Monroe City’s lone senior. Fellow KRES All-Star Joshua Talton discusses Buhlig’s leadership.

The junior Talton paced the Panthers with 18 points per game after he averaged 13 as a sophomore. Talton’s three-point percentage also ballooned from 24 to 38. The two-time All-Star analyzes his development.

Talton totaled 19 points in a 51-49 quarterfinal victory versus Christian.

Buhlig describes the Monroe City culture that has produced five straight district championships.

Monroe City defeated Summit Christian Academy 42-35 in overtime in the state semifinals. Buhlig graduates with 103 career wins and three straight conference titles.

Joshua Talton and All-Conference twin Josiah Talton were two of six juniors who played rotation minutes for 27-3 Monroe City.

Monroe City’s Class 3 matchup with Hartville marked the Panthers’ second state championship berth. The Panthers placed second in 1982.
